What types of stairs are used in residential homes

As the primary means of connecting one floor to another, the staircase is essential for any home. Homes with limited space necessitate compact stairs to maximize available space, whilst bigger homes might benefit from more elaborate designs. Let’s look at ten different types of staircases that are typically found in residential buildings.

Straight Stairs: Because they are simple to construct, contain pre-cut risers, and do not require additional support, these are the most frequently encountered staircases because their straight shape pairs nicely with railings or handrails on each side of the staircase.

This stairway ascends at an angle of 180 degrees and does not have any switchbacks. Instead, the steps could be continuous or end at the top of the building.

Spiral staircases: These stairs are ideal for small places and have a central pole to which all steps are attached. They are seen in small apartments where only one person may go up and down the stairs at a time.

Spiral staircases require extra caution because the inner staircase is significantly narrower than the outside staircase. As a result, moving big goods up and down a spiral staircase is difficult and risky.

These stairs seem like straight stairs but have a quarter-turn in the middle or near one end. They are visually pleasing and take up minimal space, fitting neatly into any residential nook.

Floating Staircases: Floating staircases are visually appealing due to their minimum support structure. They are mainly straight stair variations with no risers. They are built of wood, metal, glass, or stone in a dern style.

Ladders: While ladder steps are not commonly found in bigger homes, they are great for small apartments and studios. The fact is that many ladder stairs are not recognized as major staircases because of their complexity; yet, they are excellent for getting to the attic or rooms with a lot of bookcases or storage space.
